Reports To:Hospital Administrator/CEO

Experience:Minimum of four years experience as an RN. Acute Care/Med Surg experience required.

Desired Education:Registered Nurses License for the State of Idaho.

Bear Lake Memorial Hospital is seeking a hard-working, dependable individual that is willing to work as the Director of Nursing Services (DNS) in the Hospital. Applicants must be able to give compassionate and caring service to patients and have excellent and proven supervisory skills.

Essential duties include, but are not limited to:

Participating with the administrator in planning and budgeting for nursing care

Participating in the development and implementation of patient care policies

Developing and/or maintaining goals and objectives of nursing service, standards of nursing practice, and nursing policy and procedures manuals

Recommending to the administrator the numbers and categories of nursing and auxiliary personnel to be employed and participating in their recruitment, selection, training, supervision, evaluation, counseling, discipline, and termination when necessary. Developing written job descriptions for all nursing and auxiliary personnel

Planning and coordinating orientation programs for new nursing and auxiliary personnel, as well as a formal, coordinated in-service education programs for all nursing personnel

Oversees OR personnel (ie, Circulators, post op RNs, etc.)

Making daily rounds of nursing areas, assessing each patient, reviewing clinical records, patient care plans, medications, staff assignments and, whenever possible, accompanying physicians when they visit the facility

Preparing daily work schedule for nursing and auxiliary personnel, which include names of employees, professional designation, hours worked, and daily patient census

Coordinating the nursing service with related patient care services

Establishing procedures for general nursing care for the cleanliness, comfort, and welfare of the patients

Instructing all personnel in the proper isolation techniques to prevent infection to themselves and the patients

Delegation of any or all of the Director of Nursing Services duties as appropriate.

Ensuring that all nursing staff meets standards, that the staffing plans are adequate, that job descriptions are developed, that nursing policies are in place, that in-service training and orientation take place, and that the actual staffing patterns for each shift be documented.

Responsible to ensure that supervision of nursing staff occurs.

Oversees quality assurance, infection control, and team operations.

Perform other duties as necessary to support Bear Lake Memorials goals/mission

Responsible for hiring practices and termination of employees with the added direction from HR.


Must be willing to work various shifts/hours

Provide safe and nurturing environment for patients

Must have very good organizational skills

Demonstrated ability to balance multiple tasks and apply excellent communication skills with multiple-facets of professionals and aid the nursing staff

Demonstrated effective teamwork skills

Proven supervisory skills including motivational techniques, coaching, disciplinary actions, terminations, fair and equitable treatment of all employees, etc.

Adherence to confidentiality requirements

Ability to read, understand, follow, and enforce safety procedures

Must be able to communicate in English

High level of integrity

Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds with or without assistance
